Louise Walsh Make Up Brushes...Review

Tuesday, 27 September 2011
THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT http://louisewalsh.net/ SHE IS A DIFFERENT PERSON.

I HAVE NOW CONTACTED WATCHDOG

*Groupon have now given me a full refund on the brushes.

This post is regarding http://louisewalshinternational.com/

After much deliberation on whether to write this post and asking on twitter, the general feeling was that people wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Now I'm sure we all agree that none of us like writing a bad review..but like I said I am 100% honest in my reviews and opinions so if you don't like reading negative reviews you may want to click away now...

The story began when I saw this groupon offer  and being in the need for new makeup brushes (just some face and eye brushes not my Sigma/ELF ones!!) I thought it would be a brilliant buy, this was coupled with the fact that I had £6 credit on groupon that needed to be used up or the credit would be invalid.

Before I go further I do want to say that my "beef" (couldn't think of any other word to describe it) is not with Groupon as a company. They have replied to my email (alright I had to chase it up on facebook) but they did reply, although I know that others have had problems.

The problems started when I tried to redeem my voucher on the Louise Walsh Website, it took a good 10 times (no exaggeration) to get my voucher to redeem itself. Ok I knew that it would be slow maybe due to the volume of vouchers that were bought, but it is still annoying. Another point to make is that the brushes that are pictured in the advert on groupon are not the brushes that you will receive! Then delivery, I knew again that it would take a little longer than normal because of the high demand, but you would think that there would be processes in place to deal with that expected increase in demand for their products.

And then they arrived...

First off there is a rip in the leather pouch that they come in. Now this may look small, but it is still faulty. I have heard some have worse rips than this. It is worth noting that these just came in a plastic pouch, there was no protection around them at all.
On first opening they looked promising, there was a really cheap plastic smell that is quite overpowering though. Of course I can't translate that to you...if only blogger was scented as well! I do like this set up, the plastic flap to protect the brushes from transferring colour to other brushes.
This is how the fan brush was packaged, all bent over and deformed, there are even bristles bent back on themselves so the brush splays everywhere.

The rest of the brushes were shoddily packed, yes this was the worst one, but it is there as an example. The lip brush was half pushed up the plastic cap that is placed on there, so there is NO precision to it what so ever.
The slanted brush is the second brush that I will use as an example of the shedding from the black bristled brushes (there is less shedding in the brown bristled brushes but still they shed). The pictures are some that I took BEFORE doing the video at the end, so these are in total all the bristles that have shed from handling the brush twice.

All I did was run my thumb and fore finger over the brush, not pulling hard at all, this is shown in the video.

Overall the brushes are scratchy and I would never ever recommend them or the company. After emails to the contact email that was provided by groupon I have heard nothing from Louise Walsh. I have searched Louise Walsh on twitter and there have been a lot of negative tweets about them.

I hated writing this to be honest and I don't want you to think that I am just slating them for the sake of slating them, but this has happened over the past 2 weeks and I have heard nothing at all. I would like an explanation as to why my products arrived faulty and damaged, why the brushes shed so much and why they think these are worth nearly £100.

Has anyone else bought them?

Charli...

  1. OH my, I thought they would be 'ok' not this bad, this seems awful and very unprofessional. She's meant to be a top makeup artist and it seems unprofessional and rude to sell such tacky and bad quality brushes! I hope they reply to you soon!

  2. Thank you for posting this....no one likes doing 'negative' posts but it makes us bloggers aware!! It's such a shame they turned out to be crap cos from the outset they do look pretty!
I hope you get a response from them AND your money back! xx

  4. This is such a shame. I'm surprised that Groupon have promoted such a company, but I'm sure they have had many complaints and replies from unhappy customers. I hope that Louise Walsh reply to you soon, as it's almost thieving otherwise. Negative reviews are never nice to write, but sometimes they are worth writing so that people are aware before they make a mistake, so thank you for this xx

  5. This is a brilliant post! I actually really like reading negative reviews because it makes others aware of taking a risk on a product. I had a kerfuffle with groupon too... well like you, the company I bought it from. It was a canvas print for Connor and it took 6 weeks to arrive. The communication was terrible and they didn't even have a contact number to ring! Just shocking, same as this. Luckily when my canvas arrived, it was amazing! Shame it couldn't be said for you though, they do look terrible, I can't believe they have shed that much hair and been packaged in that way. It's just terrible. I won't be using groupon again unless it's a brand that I actually know like ASOS or something!!

  6. That is shocking! I wonder do they provide the same service to people who pay £100?!

  7. This is horrific! I've heard similar tweets on their shoddy packaging, even late posting (up to over 2 months late!) I was going to purchase a paintball experience day with them recently and glad I didn't. Dont think I will be taking a risk with them any time soon! Love reading honest posts as they make you aware of everything that actually happens behind these companies!!

    Em xx

  8. Wow, how lame are they? I know it's never fun to write a negative review but I think it's great that you decided to let us know what you honestly think of this company. Thanks for this!

  9. Oh my word! Shocking. So glad I didn't buy these! Sorry to hear they are so terrible! xx

  10. Oh no what a disaster! I'd hate to think that anyone actually bought them full price, I'd be gutted if I had. Either way £20 on brushes which are crap is bad enough & I hope you can get a refund eventuallyxx

  12. It's good to warn others of this type of thing; I've seen this deal on Groupon at least twice recently and was tempted until I saw u tweeting about it! Hopefully you hear back from the company soon. If not then that's just ridiculous! x

  13. I have had A LOT of bad experiences with Groupon, it has never gone smoothly for me at all. My example would be with the ASOS voucher and they sent me a faulty code and it took weeks for them to send them another one and by that time it was invalid so they refunded me the £9 I had paid, which wasn't really the point! I tried everything through groupon from Spa days to haircuts and it has never gone well. I think Groupon needs to check out what they are selling before they put it up on there website! Those brushes are shocking! I would be very upset if they arrived like that!

  14. Thanks for such an honest post! I've been tempted by this offer when I saw it on Groupon before, if it comes up again I now know to avoid!

  18. That's really awful, I can't believe they'd expect anyone to pay £100 for these. Thank you for the warning and the honest review and I hope you get your money back soon. After all the horror stories I've heard about Groupon I think I'm going to stay as far away from it as I can.

  19. oh that's not good, i've never heard of the company (unsuprising)
i know it's horrid to have to write a negative review, but if you don't write an honest review then how would others know of the potential problems of ordering with a company in future.
i hope that they get in contact with you soon, it's awful customer service.

  20. Wow, I saw these and thought they'd probably be shoddy, otherwise why on earth were they resorting to groupon? At a 90% discount? Pahhhhahaha, yeah right!

I'm fortunate for this review, they look awful, eek! Thank you for sharing! x

  22. I remember seeing this offer go up, and thinking to myself 'I've never heard of this "woman/MUA" whatever she is', and I've been in the industry 8 years. So I googled her and google thought I meant louis Walsh - yes, as in the x factor judge! Speaks volumes doesn't it?! I finally found this website of hers and my gut feeling was 'don't even bother Sam' because the site was just surrounded by Groupon ads and looked super unprofessional - not what you'd expect from a 'professional MUA', plus what MUA would want to be associated with poor craftsmanship???

Two weeks later I noticed the offer was still up on the Groupon site, which confirmed that the brushes couldn't have been that amazing to begin with because they weren't exactly selling out at such a cut price offer either.

The offer isn't available anymore and I honestly believe it's because you're probably not the only one who's had problems. I'm just so glad I didn't buy any, because like you I could do with some

The best way you can ensure you get your money back is to write a letter to the company stating you know what your rights are as a consumer and if they do not contact you to resolve the issue you will seek legal assistance. I've don't it a couple of time when i'm not happy with things or if I've had really bad customer service, and it's the only way you'll get any form of response because they're legally obliged to do something about it when it's in writing. It might not bother you that much but just a tip for you :-)

Oh and i wouldn't feel bad writing such a post - it's honest and you could have said a lot worse than you did, no doubt. Very informative and hopefully enough people will see it and know not to bother buying from such a shoddy manufacturer

  23. I'm still waiting of mine but I don't think I want them now! X

  24. I'm still waiting for mine too. I redeemed my voucher at the end of August and they still haven't arrived. Like RuBee said, I don't think I want them now either.

  25. I got my brushes too but they dont match the description on the website as mine have black handles. There is no branding on the packaging so the brushes could have been bought in the pound shop for all anyone elso would know. There is no foundation brush in my set as described in the groupon offer. I am also unable to contact this Louise Walsh company by phone or email. I had bought this set as a gift for my 14yo neice but dont feel I can give it to her now. Has anyone else had any success getting money back?

  26. I hadn't bought them but know an old lady who'd bought numerous for her granddaughters as Xmas presents and said all so bad she couldn't give them to them, poor old woman wasted money she didn't have to waste :( so I'm glad you've done this blog xx

  27. After reading this blog I decided to tell you about my experience.Well I ordered my brushes just over 3 months ago and I'm still waiting for my brushes from louise walsh. After contacting groupon 2 weeks ago I am stil waiting to hear if i can have a refund they contacted me saying they are going to get in touch with the company to check whether they have sent out my brushes.Having checked the Louise walsh website I see theres a notice saying that theres been a delay due to the demand by groupon customers, However I noticed about a month ago they were advertising the same brush set on another deal website So If they cant keep up with the demand why advertiseit again for me I dont know if I will ever get my money back or even my brushes judging by the pic above they look cheap nand nasty and louise walsh is a sham.

  30. Thank you so much for such an honest review. Very professional, no emotional rants just the facts.

LivingSocial are re-running this offer (18/05/12) and I nearly jumped at the chance, glad I didn’t now. I will stick to building my makeup brush collection slowly with Benefit brushes which are a bit expensive but well worth it and seem to last about 18 months before they need replacing.
