Fitness ... Getting Body Confident...

Saturday, 5 January 2013
Possibly one of the things that I have least in life at the moment. Body Confidence. It's such a horrible topic to approach and to be honest I'm not entirely sure how this post is going to go. I have been given the opportunity to use some items and been sent some items to help possibly boost confidence and also to get myself in a place where I feel happier with my body.
I'm aware this sounds horrifically vain, I know I am so lucky to have two working legs and two working arms.. How lucky I am to be without an illness that cripples me, apart from whatever is going on with my digestive system but that's a whole other story. So please don't get me wrong on that count. This is purely appearance wise and something that I know many many people (yes men as well) have problems with.
It's at this point I will throw in some comments from twitter, a lot of people have said that they automatically think that "slim" people have oodles of confidence when that is not the case at all. I believe that no matter what your size, shape or style you can have body confidence issues. I am a size 10, obviously that varies from shop to shop but I am a size 10 roughly. To some that would be amazing and to others huge. To me at the moment this feels big, the scales show 11stone (can't believe I have written that on here but in the interest of honesty this post will contain all details). So I have decided to not only try and get myself in shape this year but also to increase my body confidence and love what I have.

First off I need to sort out the exercise and diet side of things. I joined a gym back in October and found a love for zumba, boxercise and fitball. I also rekindled my love for the gym but I never fully went for it. I didn't push myself to go and often made excuses. No more of this. I will also be trying some Maxitone prodcuts* to help me along with way. I have the protein bars *, the definity shake* and the sculptress shake* to try and I have also had contact with a lovely Maxitone trainer called Sharmain who is always there to guide me at the  other end of a phonecall or an email. I will do a separate post on each of the products and the help I have had from Maxitone soon.

The one item of clothing that I always used to feel unconfident in was a bikini, however I have found one that has boosted my confidence even at the size I am now. The bikini is form Panache and its called the Stella Plunge Bikini*.
It is so hard to take a picture of a bikini when you aren't wearing it.

Panache Specialise in lingerie and other clothing from DD and onwards. It was only a few months ago that I hit that size, I can only imagine it's a late growth spurt!! I was stupidly happy to have a decent sized pair of boobs (haha) but I left the changing room after being measured to be suddenly restricted in the choice of things I could buy. The highstreet felt very limited and to what I could actually buy now. Panache is a whole other story there is just so much choice. I'm going to have a nose at the sports wear so I am comfortable when going to the gym!
Until now I have usually worn regular bikinis with now support in them at all, which I now realised  made me feel very conscious of myself. The Stella Plunge Bikini* is a lot more supportive, I have tested this theory in the shower because I've been plagued with colds so haven't wanted to go swimming. I love the nautical theme, which would look amazing on a white sandy beach (I wish).  Panache also have a blog too.

The one thing that I am going to work towards is posting a picture of myself in that bikini on my blog.
Not that that means I am body confident but I know that to do something like that I'd have to feel confident if that makes sense!

How do you get body confident?

  1. Good luck Charli! I'm trying to tone up too! I'm actually trying the intermittent fasting as it's a bit easier and since I wake up late anyway it's not too bad. I recommend checking it out :)

I'm following Slimming World, but I really need to get into an exercise regime so I tone up whilst I'm losing weight, I'm looking at possibly doing some pilates classes outside of the gym or something like that :) xx

  4. This is a topic very close to my heart so I know exactly what you're saying! I'm at my biggest in a year after some extreme Christmas overindulgence and am not a fan of the scales or of my reflection at the moment. That being said, I'm trying to focus on the positives, what I do like about my body and how far I've come. I know it could be a hell of a lot worse - I'm still around 6st lighter than I once was. Its not by any means a way to instantly fix the way you see yourself, but try to focus and emphasise the things you like about your body - your boobs, legs, smile, hair, anything really! Whatever you feel most confident about. Focusing on that takes some of the negativity away from the rest of your reflection. I look forward to your bikini pics because I know you're going to look smoking hot - posting pics of yourself in swimwear or underwear is the most terrifying and liberating thing ever. I did my before and now underwear pics and few weeks ago and I still get butterflies when I think about it!

    1. I saw your post on Where are my knees? and you look amazing! Well done!!!
Trying to focus on positives is so hard, but hopefully I will get there. Being bullied as a child doesn't help!

  9. I think this a great post I find that exercise keeps me feeling better about my body and apparently I get unbearably grumpy if I don't eat right or exercise enough :) I find the best thing really is to focus on feeling good in your own skin and not the number on the scale because it doesn't really mean much, its more about body composition, muscle etc because you can get two people of the same height and weight and they can be completely different sizes depending on so many different factors. I hope you do well and get the confidence boost you want, good luck :) x
