In the Ebay watch list...

Thursday, 29 August 2013

Black Top // Blue Top // Stripe Dress // Watch // Camera Bag

I thought I would do a quick post today of some of the items in my "watch" list on eBay. I say some as I always watch things for a while to see if I actually need them. I like the simplicity of the two tops and to be honest they are so cheap that I may order them soon, although I'd be worried that the "leather" on the black top would stink! The dress is something that I'm going to buy once I've dropped a dress size or two, at the moment I would just look awful in it, I like the neon detailing. I've always wanted a moustache watch, I don't know why I haven't bought it already. I think I am trying to use a watch I was bought at Christmas at the moment. Since buying the new camera I don't have a nice case for it and the ones in the shop were SO EXPENSIVE. Naturally, I headed straight for eBay and have found a few like this for around £11, that's a much better price in my eyes. Although if anyone has bought a camera bag off ebay, is there enough protection in them?

A short but sweet post from me today, I've just got back from a course in Coventry (thats a 5 hour round trip) and I am a sleepy bunny. It's a case of headache tablet, food and bed for me tonight. Sleepy.

Collection 2000 Bronzing Souffle - Katy's Cosmetics *

There seems to be a whole host of new ways to bronze up your face now-a-days. When I first started wearing makeup (I hate to say it but that is a good few years ago now) the only method I can remember was powder. I find powder fine to bronze with, it's pretty fool proof, but now there are creams, mousse, darker foundations and even BB bronzers.
The Collection 2000 Bronzing Souffle (yeah, it's a mousse) was my first experience of a bronzer of it's kind. My last experience with a mousse based makeup product was those mousse foundations that did the rounds years ago. Sadly my experience with both has ended up the same way - not successful.
The packaging is lovely, a nice sturdy pot that wouldn't open up and get everywhere in a bag... but that's pretty much where the good points end. As you can see from the first photo of my face the product just smudged my foundation and pushed it around my face. This was when I applied it with my finger, which is possibly the most satisfying thing to do - the bronzer is so..moussey? So then I thought I would try it with a stippling brush to see if that would apply it better, but sadly it didn't.
The second picture shows that the bronzer does contour nicely colour wise, but honestly just made my cheeks look like two streaky messes. I had high hopes for this being a really inexpensive bronzer and I am honestly gutted it didn't live up to expectation. Personally I think for a budget bronzer it may be best to stick to a powder form.

What's on my face this week...

Tuesday, 27 August 2013

Yesterday I did the usual thing that I do on a Sunday, Bank Holidays always end up being my Sunday and I sat on the floor surrounded by makeup to choose what to have in my makeup box this week. Except this week was a little different as it has followed a trip to boots where some of the haul has ended up straight in the weekly makeup.

First off, the old bits, the ever loved Benefit They're Real Mascara, the one I hoped I would hate but actually love. This tube is nearing the end of it's lash defining life (luckily I have two more!) so am just using this one up. I have a couple of other mascaras to try and find a good dupe after this. I have been using cream bronzers for a good couple of weeks now so it's back to my Sleek Contour Kit for a while.

For eyeshadows it's going to be the MUA eyeshadow palette for some neutral looks as I've been lazing it up with cream shadows recently. With my Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer to well hope that it wakes me up in the morning. I really like this concealer and now I have my snazzy camera I can show you just how much it improves my under eye circles!

Now for the exciting new bits. First up, the Beauty Blender (Leanne heavily influenced this purchase and now I have photos of it I can use it #bloggerprobs) I actually can't wait to dab this on my face, it's so so soft. Then for the new base products, first up was a simple repurchase but in a paler shade. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in shade 51, although it's been reformulated so I hope it hasn't changed much because I loved the old formula. Another Bourjois purchase (3 for 2) was the BB Bronzer, to be honest not 100% sure what this does, but I am going to have a blog read up tonight! I also picked up the bronzer primer in the little pot. Finally for a new base product to try (and something I've heard lots about) is the Dr Jart BB, but the water version. Hope to report good things back on this one, especially as it made the back of my hand look amazing :)

What's been your go to products this week?

A Bank Holiday Catch Up...

Monday, 26 August 2013

No prizes for guessing who has a new camera. That's right ladies and gents Charli now has a dslr so I can pretend I'm all professional with my pictures. Ha I jest, but photos really do look better with this camera and not just for blogging. How I wish I had this camera when my hamster Louis was alive, that would have been awesome. But now I can get some amazing pictures of my animals which obviously will be treasured forever. I guess pictures of Matt and I too.
I'd always wanted one but Matt was never convinced until seeing how Leanne's pictures turned out from her camera and then he wanted one! I'm no pro but I'm enjoying googling how to use it to it's full potential.

I suppose a new job update is in order too. I've been there for two weeks already which has flown by. I'm enjoying it so much and it's so nice to use my brain again, even if it is exhausting me! The office is such a nice place to work too, great people and you may have seen my tweets about "Treat yourself Friday" - which was eating Nandos on massive beanbags at lunchtime. Perfect.

Animals are all fine too. Gusgus is sadly starting to show his age now, the tell tale signs are there which I recognise from how Louis and Marli looked as they got older. He doesn't bother trimming his claws down and looks like a little scruff bag now. Nothing is slowing him down physically though, he would still escape if I don't put something on top of his cage. Bertie is still my little (read: big) trouble maker with his love of being underneath our bed and digging things up. Even though our balcony is perfectly kitted out for him, I wish we had a garden. The other 6 hamsters on the other hand, well they are so frisky handling them is tough and not as enjoyable as handling a syrian hamster, BUT they are so cute they make up for it. I could watch them for hours.

My £40 ASOS voucher giveaway ended Friday and I am about to pick a winner to announce at the end of this post, I have a feeling that with over 1700 entries I'm going to have a lot of checking to do to make sure all the criteria was followed. I hope that whoever wins has an awesome shopping spree :)

Hope you have had a lovely bank holiday weekend.

And the winner is.... well the first person that rafflecopter picked hadn't followed me on bloglovin'...drumroll again...same thing again this person hadn't done the entry properly! NEXT....5th time lucky eh? - The winner has actually turned out to be Leanne!! As in Leanne Marie aka my bessie mate hahaha, loving it. I haven't told her yet, waiting for her to read this post!

Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Dust It Powder...

Wednesday, 21 August 2013
OSIS Dust It Powder - Escentual

Since having a good couple of inches cut of my hair it's been all about getting volume for me and I went out on the hunt for some products that would put the oomf back in my hair. The longer it gets the limper it looks but I don't want to cut it back short, it's taken too long to get my hair this long.

One of the products that a fair few people mentioned on twitter was the OSIS Dust It Powder. It's a texturising powder that you apply to your hair at the roots or in the lengths to add body and volume without backcombing. My favourite way of using this is at the roots of my hair and boy does this stuff make my hair go huge! I have been trying it in the ends of my hair but I don't like how it makes them feel. The OSIS Dust It Powder leaves a residue on the hair which builds up over time so I use my Boots Clarifying Shampoo at least once a week to get rid of it.

What's your favourite volumising hair product?

The Makeup Collection... 17 Lipsticks...

Monday, 19 August 2013
17 Lip Sticks Mirror Shine - £4.59 - Boots

One of the lipsticks that seems to have always been in my collection is the staple product of the 17 Mirror Shine Lipsticks, I even have my Nan hooked on them. They offer a very glossy finish to the lips but some really do pack a punch, like Hollywood - the red one in the picture. The nude shades are Belle and Beehive which everyone raved about for a good while. I like them for daytime because they are easy to apply and wear off really nicely. They are also my preferred lip colour if I go very dark on my eyes for an evening out, if I haven't gone for my signature red/neon pink lips.
A great staple lipstick from a really affordable brand.
Have you used any of the 17 Mirror Shines?
What are you favourite colours?

The Sunday Snapshot... Detoxing using Clean 9...

Sunday, 18 August 2013

Clean 9 Detox - I bought it from Jess (link here)

It's come to that point where I need a kick start. I know there is no quick fix to sort things out weight wise so please don't get me wrong there. I have researched Clean 9 and looked into the benefits of the Aloe Vera Gel for IBS too and I'm hoping that it will ease my stomach problems too.

I'm currently on Day 2, so not that far in and will report back after the 9 days are up with my results and how I feel. The pack contains 3 litre bottles of Aloe Vera Gel which you have to down a few times a day as well as taking Garcincia Tablets and Bee Pollen. Along with that there is a shake you take once a day and mine is Chocolate Flavour.

I'm not going to lie, it's tough. The Aloe is disgusting but my stomach hasn't hurt at all since drinking it. I'm not hungry but I am missing food, leading me to realise that I eat for the sake of it? I'm a little light headed and sick of drinking water, but looking forward to eating a 600 calorie meal tomorrow. The shake is yummy and because you have it with milk it actually fills you up.

I hope you don't think I'm too crazy, but might as well try it!

Ohh and I have a new camera too - still getting used to the settings and my lens, but yes for nice photos! Oh and the new job is going amazing, we went white water rafting on Friday and it was epic. Especially as before hand we did a treasure hunt over the city and ended the day with cocktails.

The Lipsticks that I just didn't like...

Thursday, 15 August 2013
Topshop Lipstick - COY // Barry M - *** // Rimmel Apcalips // NYX - ***

A while ago I wrote a post on eyeliners that I don't like but I can't get rid of. And here is the lip version of that post. These lipsticks I pretty much never wear, some I even hate. Yet they have survived every single makeup cull that I have had - Why? I don't even know.

Topshop Coy is dry, too pale and just looks horrendous on me. The orangey-ness of the Barry M colours just doesn't suit me. The NYX Lipstick is purple, yeah that just doesn't work and don't even get me started on the Rimmel Apocalips, I could rant about them for hours.

Sexy Hair Straight Sexy Hair Power Straight Straightening Balm...

Tuesday, 13 August 2013
A top was worn when taking these photos. Eep.

What a mouthful of a title. Bascially I'm reviewing a straightening balm here, or to go by it's official name - Sexy Hair Straight Sexy Hair Power Straight Straightening Balm. My hair woes continue in this post and I was hoping the longer my hair got the less heat that I would need to use, which in turn would make my hair grow longer and healthier. Yeah, that would be the ideal situation. However, it's still frizzy and needs straightening, but I like the messy look so once straightened I end up messing up the look with the OSIS Dust It Powder.

The answer, a straightening balm. I did have a sample of the Bumble and Bumble one and it was incredible but far too expensive for me to consider repurchasing. But this one was on offer (and still is) on so I thought I would give it a go. I put a pea sized amount in my hands, rub it up and then run it lightly through my hair when wet. It's a clear balm which is quite sticky when you get it all over your hands (ew!). Then blow dry and end up with nice straight hair which has no frizzy bits as you can see from the photos above. I didn't even brush dry my hair, just rough dried it with the hairdryer. I love this balm!

Do you use anything specific to keep your hair straight?

Top Five Pastel Nail Colours...

Wednesday, 7 August 2013

Illamasqua - Purity // Topshop - World's End // Revlon Colourstay - Cafe Pink // Revlon -  Charming// Essie - Mint Candy Apple

One nail trend that I have always loved is pastels. I wear these colours all year around, I don't really change up my nail polishes according to what season we are in. These five are just the tip of the iceberg as to how many I have but I wanted to share my favourite pastel nail polishes with you.

Illamasqua Purity is one that I bought from a blog sale almost 2 years ago now and it's still going strong. This one is a little odd though, some days I love it so much and I never want it off my hands and others it really washes me out. I think when I'm tanned a little it looks better so this will be coming with me on holiday.

I'm currently sporting Topshop's World's End and it's the reason why I wanted to write this post. One coat is all you need for a nice bright nail and it's lasting well. I was too tired to put a top coat over it two days ago but it's still going strong.

The two Revlon polishes are staples I've used up a fair bit of them. The gel like polish is supposed to last longer than normal ones, but with a good top coat I don't find any difference. I think my favourite ever nail polish colour is a pastel purple, I always seem to paint my nails this colour if I'm stuck with choosing a colour from my stupidly large collection.

Finally, Mint Candy Apple by Essie possibly one of the most well known pastel nail colours? I coveted this for so long and then picked one up on Fragrance Direct for £1.99. It's the old style brush so it's annoying to apply, but once you do you are rewarded with a lovely mint green nail.

What are you favourite pastel nail colours?

Today I am going to have a spring clean, I'm going through changes in my working life and feel the need to have an overhaul with everything else. So the marigolds are coming out, well after I get out of bed right now, pulling everything out of each drawer - throwing/selling things I don't use (and by throwing I mean charity!). Hopefully that will make me feel more settled and refreshed. I also whacked a load of fake tan on last night and slept with Philip Kingsley Elasticizer all on my hair. My hair needs it because last week I re-ombred YEY!

The Cosmetics Post... Handbag Essentials...

Monday, 5 August 2013

Welcome to the contents of a makeup bag that goes with me wherever I go. When my anxiety started to get worse having a little bag of essentials on me really calmed me down. Along with the above a bottle of water and a carrier bag - odd I know.
There is usually more "medicinal" things in my handbag rather than makeup, because I always forget to re apply during the day and I carry enough junk around with me without having 10 lipsticks. Recently my hayfever has been shocking, the pollen count has been stupidly high and I've even bought a new light therapy machine to try out. I look stupid with it on but if it works I don't care - reporting back soon. Prevalin has worked wonders for me this year, at £9.99 it's steep, if only they did it on prescription.
Makeup wise I have the Bourjous Healthy Balance powder*, a really old bodyshop lipbalm, a really old conealer and blushers from ELF (notice a theme of just chucking old makeup in my bag - I should really change that!)
Other staples include a mirror, cotton buds (in that mint tin), hand gel, biofreeze, caudile and panadol. Not to mention my favourite £4 lidl special perfume.

What are you essentials for your handbag makeup bag?
Looks like I'm off to sort this one out and put some makeup in there that probably isn't going off.

I'm off to have my hair done this afternoon, ombre is being added to which will make it brighter!

The Makeup Post... Dabbling in False Eyelashes for the first time...

Friday, 2 August 2013
Eyelure Naturalites Super Full // Boots Perfect Finish False Eyelashes

Stop Press, Hold the Phone, Get the records books out - I have purchased false eyelashes. Something I always said I wasn't interested in, didn't need and didn't want. Well curiosity got the better of me and I popped a couple of  packs into my basket. I bought the cheaper Boots own ones in a more natural style to try and wear t in preparation for wearing the Eyelure Naturalites Super Full for the Wedding !
I tried a few days before the wedding and failed big time although I think that is more to do with my bad hayfever giving me less patience than normal. It made me wonder if I would have the patience to apply them whilst nervously getting ready as bridesmaid and I wasn't.  I asked Leanne's sister to apply them for me. Apart from one reapplication half way through the day they lasted for ages and I really liked the look of them. My hayfever stayed away so I didn't have itchy eyes and if I'm honest I didn't know if I would find them too uncomfortable, but they were fine.
I really wanted my eyes to look awesome in photos, vain I know, so would love to hear any tips and tricks from false eyelash wearers out there for future uses?

Today is my last day in my current job, it's scary, exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time. Here is to new beginnings!
