A break from gel nails

Wednesday, 27 May 2015

My poor nail polish drawer has been heavily neglected during recent months because I fell back in love with having gel/shellac nails. Last month the girls in work had a surprise when I had a huge makeup cull and turned up to work with a carrier bag full of goodies for them. The colours I kept were one of each and my ultimate favourites, but fast forward a month and I still haven't used them.

Well, what could be better than a pamper session on a bank holiday Monday, than a DIY at home manicure? For the main colour I chose the Rimmel 60 seconds in "Instyle Coral" - one of my favourite formulas of nail polish, paired with a pink from W7.

Bicester Village

Monday, 25 May 2015

Last weekend I ventured to Bicester Village for a day of being "Ladies that lunch...and shop". I'd never been before but had heard loads of great things and had huge expectations of insane bargains. What I hadn't anticipated was this huge surge of humans in such a small place.

Everywhere was jam packed and these people clearly had no sense of personal space. For example, we ventured into the Cosmetics Store and I was pretty excited - as I'm sure you can imagine. Whilst browsing the oddly coloured lipsticks I was pushed, shoved and barged out of the way by people pulling suitcases! Madness!

Anyway, I did pick up a few things and I am so happy with my purchases. We headed into Ted Baker and their makeup bags were really discounted. I picked up this mint green offering and it was only £12, reduced from around £20 I think.

I have always loved the idea of the leather phone cases and tablet cases and I fell in love with the Mulberry ones, however, I was due my phone upgrade at the time and knew I was upgrading to the iPhone 6 which sadly none of the shops seemed to stock case wise. (More on this later - I haven't ended up with the 6!). There was a really small leather shop called Smythson, the type of shops that when you walk past you can't help but stop to smell the leather. Inside was a lovely display of matching pouches in grey, orange, blue, yellow and pink. And they fitted the iPhone 6!!

The grey tablet case was bought for me for my birthday and I bought the phone cover with birthday money. I love my matching set and actually am really glad I invested in some good pieces to look back on and say "I had these for my 25th birthday"... now to figure out how I can get that £3,000 Chloe handbag.....

Half way to 50.

A quarter of the way to 100.

5 years to 30.

Twenty five.

Twenty - FIVE.

I'm not sure why, but I really struggled with turning twenty five. In the morning I couldn't shake of the feeling of ageing. Has anyone felt like that before? Even in the car on the way to the zoo I was full of thoughts about where my life should be and why it's not where I thought I would be at this age.

Then I had a huge wave of guilt, I know so many people who haven't made it to this age. I have lost friends at various stages in my life, who would have loved to make it to 25. I shook of my mood and looked out of the window, I had amazing sunshine on my birthday and I needed to enjoy it.

Each birthday should be cherished. You never know how many you have left.

Things have been a little quiet around here of late and I will be completely honest, I have toyed with the idea of packing in blogging, not so much delete and disappear, but to just not post/film for either forever or for not a long time. I've lost all enjoyment of blogging and even reading blogs to be honest. Without getting on my soap box, we all know blogging has changed and I miss just sitting and typing about what I've been doing. So, that's what I've decided to do. My blog is now my diary again.

Every weekend I am still at Cardiff Dogs Home where I am spending time with gorgeous woofers like Chuck above. He's deaf, huge but oh so amazing. Long shot but if you are looking for a new dog, PLEASE head to Cardiff Dogs Home, all dogs big and small there! Google "friends of the dogs Wales" for the full selection.

I've made the switch to de-cafe coffee. Pretty bold statement from someone who was drinking up to 6/7 coffees a day, especially with the nespresso machine in work. I was recently back and forth the doctors with a possible heart condition and leaving caffeine behind was decided after having to have an ECG. It's not been as hard as I thought, but I was finding not having a coffee a real struggle. Peppermint tea just wasn't cutting it so ended up having a rant in Morrisons about the price of de-cafe coffee and purchasing the biggest pot I could find.

I've finally opened one of the Lush gift boxes that I received for Christmas. I actually liked waiting, felt like I was opening the present all over again! Now the tough decision is which bath bomb to have this weekend.

*New bedding klaxon* and this time from Morrisons of all places. Never once did I realise that they even stocked bedding, but this set caught my eye on a recent trip there with my Nan. It's manly enough for Matt and "pretty" enough for me, you can also flip it over and the other side has more white, which fits nicely with my obsession for light and airy decor in the flat.

What have you been up to lately?!

W7 slanted buffing brush...

Friday, 1 May 2015

Part of preparing for my long motorway drive to Bluestone was to get some practice in by driving a short distance on the motorway to Brigend. It's only about 20 minutes but for me it was enough to get me used to zooming along at speeds I'd never reached before.

Anyway, aside from being really happy that I acoomplished something that was so huge for me, I was also really happy to discover a new beauty outlet shop. I say new, I haven't been to the Brigend Designer Outlet fora good couple of years so it might not be all that new.

Despite Matt's look on his face when he realised where I was dragging him in to, we spent a good 30 minutes in there. Well, that's not that long, but considering the shop isn't all that big - it was enough to lap it three times.

The shop was full of hidden gems, I just didn't need anymore makeup. Ideally I would have splurged on the W7 eyeshadow pallettes - except I have so many and lipsticks - but again I have so many already. I left with two items a white nail polish and the above brush.

I've not seen a brush like the above much before, although I'm sure it's just me being behind the times and I've completly missed the trend! Anyway, the bottom line was, the brush wasn't that expensive, it looked soft and I figured the shape would make it good to use. (Wow, top notch beauty blogger right here!)

I pondered for a while on what to actually use the brush for because of its unusual shape. It's too awkward to use for blusher and I don't think I would have the paitence to use it for a bronzer. I settled on using it for foundation and to help buff in concealer on the contours of my face.
I don't aply my foundation with this brush, for that I use my Real Techniques buffing brush and then buff in further with the W7 brush. I have found that as my Real Techniques brush has got older the finish it leaves me with just isn't great anymore, despite furiously cleaning and drying.

W7 isn't a brand that I have really dabbled in much, anything I am missing out on?
